ICM partnered
with Phoenix Bio-Systems to design and build Bio-Methanators.
Phoenix Bio-Systems
joined forces with ICM in 1996 to provide the ethanol industry
with high-efficiency, cost-effective anaerobic wastewater treatment
systems known as Bio-Methanators. The first project Dr. Joe
Ruocco, Ph.D. (Phoenix Bio-Systems' principal), worked
on with ICM was a 10,000-gallon Bio-Methanator for High Plains
Corporation in Colwich, KS. ICM and Phoenix have since installed
versions of this initial prototype in biorefineries across
North America, helping to reduce plant energy costs by capturing
methane then using it to help power the plant. In addition,
the use of Bio-Methanators enabled ICM plants to offer zero
process water discharge.
