Advanced Process Controls

Deviation from steady-state operation, known as variability, can affect plant economics significantly.

Whether it is a change in air makeup in the boiler combustion control areas, product loss through overpurification or an event that causes downtime by tripping units offline, every deviation from steady-state operation costs money. If one plant variable moves, many of the other variables move as a result of that move. These multiple moving variables are difficult for human operators to visualize and hard to handle well.

An Advanced Process Control (APC) system uses dynamic models of the process to make timely changes to multiple variables to correct disturbances that can lead to deviation.
