ICM, Inc. Announces Commercial Deployment of its Biomass Gasifier Technology
Technology to Process Various Feedstocks, Produce Valuable Co-Products & Provide Cleaner Energy Alternatives
 
(Colwich, Kan. –May 2, 2011) – After the successful completion of infrastructure development, research, testing, and an independent engineering review, ICM is pleased to announce it is beginning commercial deployment of its biomass gasification system. Since its inception in 1995, ICM has proven its ability to serve as a technology solutions provider to the renewable energy industry.  
 
In 2009, ICM began operating its commercial-scale demonstration gasifier with the capacity to convert 150 tons per day of biomass and create a syngas (producer gas) that can be efficiently used as a fuel for industrial power and heating applications.  Over the course of the last two years, ICM has successfully tested more than 13 feedstocks, processed 7,000 tons of multiple feedstocks, and amassed more than 2,100 hours of operating the gasification unit. Examples of the feedstocks tested include  refuse-derived fuel (RDF) generated from  municipal solid waste (MSW), tire-derived fuel (TDF) mixed with RDF, wood chips, pine bark, wheat straw, corn stover, chicken litter, switchgrass, automobile shredded residue (ASR) mixed with RDF, and other biomass/energy crops.
 
The ICM biomass gasification platform is also very flexible and can be controlled in such a way as to co-produce high-carbon biochar, which has considerable value as a soil amendment and resource for carbon sequestration.  Tom Ranallo, Vice President of Operations for ICM, noted “It was critically important for ICM to invest heavily in a commercial-scale demonstration unit to prove the feedstock-flexible capabilities of this robust technology, which dates back to 1975, as well as to give potential customers and lenders the comfort and reassurance they need to finance waste-to-energy and biomass-to-energy projects.”
