Today, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) and ICM, Inc. (ICM) announced a strategic marketing collaboration to provide “ZEBREXTM” to the fuel ethanol industry in the United States. ZEBREXTM will improve production capacity and reduce energy costs through the use of proven state-of-the-art zeolite membrane dehydration technology. MCC and ICM including Matheson Tri-Gas, Inc., who has been MCC’s ZEBREXTM marketing partner in the US, will collaborate to market, engineer and provide turnkey solutions for ZEBREXTM within the United States.

ZEBREXTM has been successfully proven at over 70 plants outside the United States, and offers more than 10 years of operational experience in bioethanol plants. ZEBREXTM is specifically designed for ease of use, energy efficiency, and has a smaller carbon footprint than traditional pressure swing adsorption or organic membranes.

ICM Enters Brazilian Ethanol Marketplace Opening New Office

ICM ENTERS BRAZILIAN ETHANOL MARKETPLACE OPENING NEW OFFICE

 

(Colwich, Kan. – October 5, 2017) – ICM, Inc., the premier biofuels process technology provider delivering innovative technologies, solutions, and services to sustain agriculture and to advance renewable energy throughout the world, is pleased to announce an opening of a regional office in the city of São Paulo, Brazil.

As an industry-leader in the development and optimization of ethanol technologies, ICM is in the process of hiring a team of employees to service the needs of the region.

ICM’s plans to develop enhanced operations in Brazil were initiated by the transformation taking place in the country. Today, Brazil’s strong agricultural economy, favorable growing conditions producing record corn yields, infrastructure development, and local demand for grains use in livestock productions and ethanol use are aligning to bring great opportunities within the country.

The demand for ethanol versus the current low production has created a gap of approximately 3 billion liters that is expected to grow to 5 billion liters by 2022. The solution to meet the bioenergy fuel needs of the country of Brazil can be found in areas with an abundance of corn. ICM believes a typical corn ethanol biorefinery in Brazil, based on local demand and infrastructure, can be constructed to produce 200 to 400 million liters of ethanol per year. This would indicate an opportunity for at least 25 corn ethanol biorefineries in Brazil complementing ethanol produced from sugarcane.

These type of biorefineries can bring an expected 100+ new jobs to the communities where they reside in the region as well as numerous indirect jobs and significant labor positions during its construction. At full rate, one 200 million liter biorefinery will originate over 500,000 metric tons of corn sourced primarily from the local area.

With a history dating back to the 1970s, ICM has been a pioneer in the biofuels industry, and today we are leveraging our intellectual property to provide customers around the world with the quality, integrity, service and innovation that can only come from the industry leader. ICM has designed and/or built over 100 plants in North America with an expanding presence in South America.

Most recently, ICM designed the FS Bioenergia ethanol biorefinery located in Mato Grosso, Brazil’s Corn Belt, near the city of Lucas do Rio Verde. ICM’s scope of work included providing technologies, engineering, proprietary equipment, and services. Technologies comprised the corn to ethanol process and two patent-pending processes to increase ethanol and oil yields, Selective Milling Technology™ and Fiber Separation Technology™. Services included on-site representations throughout the build, installation, start-up, and commissioning processes.

ICM’s Selective Milling Technology™ - New and Improved!

Reducing energy required to free more starch for enzymes conversion to sugar

(Colwich, Kan. – March 15, 2017) – With a significant decrease in the electrical load requirement, same production yields and new opportunities for improved operations, ICM is proud to announce a new advanced design of ICM’s Selective Milling Technology™ (SMT™).

This proven technology allows plants to produce increases of up to 3% ethanol yield and up to 15% distiller’s oil recovery, and ultimately, increased revenues. Now with this technological advancement, ICM’s new design provides up to a 50% reduction in SMT™ system connected horsepower, while providing an opportunity to dramatically change the grind profile and to reduce suspended solids throughout the plant.

SMT™ is a platform technology that frees more starch critical for enzyme conversion to sugar by selectively targeting and flaking larger starch particles into smaller ones; or separating starch away from fiber, protein, or fats. Using a newly designed proprietary milling device, the new and improved SMT™ allows plants to take advantage of these benefits while also maximizing efficiencies by reducing the added energy needed. ICM’s Technology Development team developed this latest upgrade by evaluating various equipment designs available that can perform the necessary processes, and by leveraging ICM’s ability to partner with multiple equipment manufacturers.

“ICM’s new and improved SMT™ process offers tremendous value in itself, and ICM’s bolt-on technologies are the leading upgrades to position your corn ethanol plant for the next technological innovation,” stated Steve Hartig, Vice President, Technology Development. As a platform technology SMT™ is a starting point, with the next step being ICM’s patented Fiber Separation Technology™ (FST™), where the fiber is separated from the stream through counter flow washing steps. FST™ provides a dual benefit—eliminating the fiber from the fermentation stream allows for higher corn ethanol production and increases corn oil yield. These value-added platform technologies separate a fiber stream at the front end of the plant, which are the starting points of the Generation 1.5 Grain Fiber to Cellulosic Ethanol Technology™, ICM’s answer to a low risk solution to cellulosic ethanol.

A state-of-the-art bio-refinery showcasing ICM’s cutting-edge technologies

(Colwich, Kan. – March 2, 2017) – ICM, Inc. is proud to announce ICM ELEMENT to be built in Colwich, KS, co-located next to ICM’s headquarters. ICM ELEMENT will be a state-of-the-art bio-refinery showcasing our cutting-edge technologies; technology being the driving element that continues to push ICM to be a world leader in renewable fuels. With this vision the name ICM ELEMENT was selected for the new plant.

ICM’s success derives from the passion, commitment, and expertise of people that work together for a common goal. We see every individual as an integral element to the success of the planned 70 MMgy revolutionary plant estimated at a cost of $175 million to  build. ICM plans to be the majority owner and is in current discussion with investors who also see the vision and value of the project to the industry.

Elements are nature’s building blocks and the world is searching for cleaner, sustainable, renewable fuels. ICM President Chris Mitchell stated, “ELEMENT will strive to be one of the most energy efficient manufacturers of ethanol in the industry with the deployment of multiple new technologies including our ICM gasification unit.” The ICM patented gasifier technology is capable of fully converting biomass and forestry feedstocks into producer gas or syngas, while co-generating a biochar product that has many applications in agriculture and other industries. Producer gas, derived from air-blown gasification platforms, is ideal for local combined heat and power applications, industrial power and heating/drying applications. Mitchell continued, “As a result, we will produce one of the lowest cost, highest value ethanol gallons on the market while bringing increased revenue to one of America’s most essential elements: the U.S. ag industry.”

ELEMENT will also be the first full scale deployment of ICM’s patent pending Generation 1.5 Grain Fiber to Cellulosic Ethanol Technology™ (Gen 1.5) process producing up to five million gallons of cellulosic ethanol per year.   This process has been proven in large scale, up to 585,000 gallons fermentors in runs greater than 1000 hours increasing ethanol yield up to 10% and increasing corn oil yield up to 20%. The cellulosic gallons produced will be eligible to capture D3 RINs, cellulosic tax credits and California Low Carbon Fuel Standard Credits, which can result in an added value as high as $4.00 per gallon above corn ethanol prices.  This process also produces a high protein DDGS which has been demonstrated in extensive feed trials to bring added value in poultry and swine rations.  Steve Hartig, Vice President, Technology Development, ICM, Inc., said, “Showcasing this technology at ELEMENT is an important step forward. We see this technology bringing a sustainable benefit to the entire ethanol industry by maximizing the value of each acre of corn and supplying the market with cost competive low carbon cellulosic ethanol.”

Beyond the breakthrough technologies of gasification and Gen 1.5, ELEMENT will also have the latest versions of ICM’s proven technologies for corn ethanol such as Selective Milling Technology™ (SMT™) and Fiber Separation Technology™ (FST™), along with several new technologies under development. ICM’s patented SMT™ and FST™ will drive the project, allowing ICM ELEMENT to increase throughput, decrease cost per gallon, and create the ability to produce high-value streams from traditional DDGS, all while increasing ethanol yield and increasing distiller’s corn oil recovery. ICM’s SMT™ is the industry leader, with 26 current installations, representing over 2 billion gallons of annual ethanol production.  With the further addition of ICM’s proprietary Fiber Separation Technology™, the fiber is separated from the stream by counter flow washing steps. FST™ enables a higher corn ethanol production,  increased corn oil yield and the separated fiber provides the feedstock for the Gen 1.5 process.

The ethanol industry was built by many visionaries, a key element of that growth has and will continue to be ICM and our most precious element: employees.  This planned plant will add an expected 50+ new jobs to the Colwich community as well as numerous indirect jobs and significant construction employment during its construction.  At full rate, this plant will purchase over 22 million bushels in corn and sorghum sourced primarily from the local area.
